And Finally He Popped The Question...

Who did: Archie
To Whom: Veronica (At least that's what this cover Archie_Weds_Veronica? seems to indicate)

If you don't know who I am talking about, then obviously you have not read any of the Archie comics. I started reading Archie comics after I outgrew Tinkle, Chacha Chaudhary, Chandamama. I have rummaged through numerous raddiwala stalls in search of second-hand comics coz they were really expensive compared to the Indian ones; borrowed the comics from my younger cousin who's also bitten by the reading bug; and even sat in Crossword for hours reading the comics.

The buzz doing the rounds is that Archie is finally going to choose between Betty and Veronica. And rumors are that he is going to choose Veronica over Betty. Not surprisingly a lot of the readers are aghast over Archie's decision to choose the spoilt rich female instead of the goody-goody one. Geez, it's just a comic. Why trash our favourite comic book characters calling Archie a jerk, Veronica a snotty brat and Betty a doormat!

Which brings me to the question I had in my mind: Do nice girls finish last? I always thought that the opposite was true. I mean when it comes to dating, guys seem to like the wild chick, the wilder the better. But when it comes to settling down, it's mummy's choice. And in most cases, it's dead certain that mummy is not going to pick the girl who speaks her mind, who doesn't fit into the mould of the beautiful, obedient, docile wife/daughter-in-law. It's true of even females; we may fall for the tousle-haired, dreamy-eyed, guitar-wielding, poetry-spewing guy in our teens. But when we realize that he's not husband-material, we drop him in favor of the suited-booted guy with a steady 9-6 job. Is there any truth to the keep-your-guy-at-the-edge advice that mags like Cosmo seem to offer?Well, it certainly worked in Veronica's case, didn't it!

P.S. I think the cover is just a trick. The Archie-Betty-Veronica saga will probably end up in a filmy manner with Archie realizing his love for Betty at the last minute.

I liked the husband or wife material part.It is true young things mostly settle for the conventional.

@As the Mind Meanders
I am sooo not looking forward to a middle aged Archie!I am still reading Little archie, little betty series :-)

@Shankar
Hey thanks..And welcome to my blog..Cya around...

@KParthasarathi
Was that a typo?Actually, I meant when we are young, we tend to go for the unconventional.And when maturity comes in, go with the conventional wisdom.

True!
I am also a fan of Archies too!
But had to drop out reading the comic as it isn't available here (not even in second hand shops!).
And as for the husband/wife selection, it is understandable why the Governments across the World have put up an age limit for marriage.
Teenager's tend to opt for more wilder, adrenaline rushing alternatives.
And when they come to an age of maturity, they listen to Momma's advice! ;)

Nice post!!

When is comes to marriage the brain overcomes the heart!! Thats why such couples lack the chemistry that they should have...

@pawan
Hmm, even I found it hard to find the comics, so that's when I started reading them when I went to Crossword :-)
Mummy knows best eh :-).

@Whats in a Name
You know what, if the brain makes up its mind, then the heart follows suit and vice versa.
Thanks for blogrolling. Cya around :-)

@silentlyexpress
Suman saurabh?Hmm,never heard of those.
I think everybody seems to be shifting at the availability of options :-). You need to be truly committed to stick to one person.

IMO:

No freakin way Archie deserves Betty.. Betty is like a dream come true.. Veronica is a nightmare..

Don't u think Archie is too dumb to deserve Betty? I've always perceived him as a big loser.. he deserves Veronica who could actually give him some direction in his life..

@195 Degrees
Oh come on, we can't have only Betty's in the world..The world would be such a boring place.You need some Veronicas also to keep guys on their toes. And no, I don't think Archie's a loser, but clueless,care-free,happy-go-lucky like most of us were in our teens.

@Gautam
Yea, got bored of the old template, spent almost the entire last weekend, trying to copy all the widgets. Still not happy with this template :-( . I started blogging in May 2008.

@sm
Hmmm

@Hemal
Ya, i changed the template..I am not quite happy with this one either, but don't feel like searching for another one and copy-pasting all my widgets and codes etc etc. So this will have to do for a while.

Oh why does everyone think Archie has made a foolish choice. Maybe Archie wanted someone who was not predictable and homey, everyone does not look for the same things in the person they wanna marry rite...

there are things that does matter to a male in general. well just think of it, it was ofcourse archie who choose the girl, it was its creator (company if you may). now the creator decides what he wants to do and he might have liked a twist to the popular belief. so that ppl like us do a debate and spread the word!!!!

and to what you wrote on my blog, have posted the comments there.. go there and see...

The reel-life characters, are as close to people's hearts, as the real ones!

I still remember the good old series F.R.I.E.N.D.S... you'll surely be close to one of 'em.

Also, SIENFELD series, wherein Jerry Sienfeld was offered 5million$ per episode to continue with the tenth season, but he refused.

And so goes the solace for Betty...

ur blog seems to have gone thru a draconian change... wats with u and nature now, huh???

you sound as if you mind Archie proposing veronica...as far as I know, unlike the masses, you like and associate yourself more and more to Veronica than with Betty.

So good for you... Great!!! Whoo says money and looks cant buy love? You've got brains too on top of it... Who needs a heart nowadays...

Its same as Scarlett O' Hara having a happy Ending with Rhett...

It's just a comic at the end of the day..why bother..btw. your argument about the conventional,unconventional is quite true....btw. nice blog :P!!

@Maniac
Exactly, almost every show or a cartoon has its share of fans. And to them the characters are as important as real people.
Oh Friends is an iconic show. You can watch the reruns hundreds of times and still not get bored.
Nice article from TOI.

@Anonymous
I don't think draconian is the right word. Perhaps you meant radical. Yea, was just tinkering around with the template.The header image has nothing to do with my love of nature. If it did, it would be all nice and greeny and pretty. The image shows what I feel sometimes:Walking into the unknown...

I don't mind it either ways. And I do not associate myself either with Betty or Veronica. So am not bothered if Archie chose Betty or Veronica.

If one didn't have the heart, money,looks, brains won't matter to you.

Naa, the happy ending between Rhett and Scarlet spoiled the story for me. I preferred the abrupt ending of the original story rather than the tame one in the sequel.

@Rahul
If bloggers didn't bother about stuff, you would be taking away 90% of the posts from them. I don't think everyone is all serious and grumpy in their posts. Don't think there is anything wrong in being a little frivolous sometimes :-).

Yea, the conventional/unconventional thing came to my mind as I thought about the kind of crushes I had in my teens to now. Hey and welcome to my blog..Cya around...
